Bundi Village has clean water for the first time in its history. Thanks to the incredible generosity of 19 donors, the 350+ residents of Bundi Village, along with the children and staff at the nearby primary school, now have access to safe, clean drinking water, ending their reliance on a muddy stream shared with livestock and wild animals.
This project was made possible by 19 generous donors whose compassion and faith in this mission brought Bundi Village to full funding. Every single person who gave to this project, whether a first-time donor or a longtime friend of Water of Mercy, played a real and irreplaceable role in making this well a reality. Because of your generosity, 350+ people have access to clean, safe drinking water, and children at the nearby primary school will no longer face the threat of waterborne disease. With an astounding 34 donations to date across 13 different village well projects, Jörg P. exemplifies the kind of sustained commitment that makes lasting change possible. His generosity, representing 46% of the funding for this project, has helped bring clean water to Kapili, Kaputeni Chisi, Yesaya, Mchilawengo, Kajombo, Msese, Luwerezi, Khorwa, Msambanyifwa, Zebediya, Chibekete, Bundi, and Zakariya.

From Crisis to Clean Water
Before this well, the 350+ residents of Bundi Village had no access to safe drinking water. The only water source available was a muddy stream shared with livestock and wild animals, where families and children had to stand in the flowing brown water to scoop it into buckets and containers. The water is visibly contaminated with mud and sediment, and this area is prone to cholera and other waterborne diseases, presenting severe health risks to the entire community, including learners and teachers at the nearby primary school.
For the children who attend that school, this contaminated stream was the only water available during their educational day. Families had no alternative and no relief from the daily health risk this water source presented.
Persistence: The Bundi Drilling Story
Fully funded at 100% of our goal on March 23, 2026, the Bundi Village well was drilled on May 1, 2026. But getting clean water to Bundi took something extra: persistence.
The drilling team surveyed and drilled at multiple sites within the village before striking water on the third attempt. Two previous boreholes failed to find water. Rather than walk away, the team kept going. The drilling crew worked through the night, and when clean water finally rose from the borehole, the effort and determination of everyone involved was rewarded. Thanks be to the Lord, Bundi was a success.
The video captures the moment water was struck during the overnight drilling operation. Out of 16 wells drilled by Water of Mercy, Bundi is the only village that required more than one attempt. This is a testament both to the unpredictable geology of rural Malawi and to the commitment of our drilling team and partners on the ground to never leave a village without water.

Rapid Impact, Lasting Change
Today, 350+ people, including children and staff at the nearby primary school, have access to clean, safe drinking water directly in their village. The project has dramatically reduced the risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases that threatened this community, fundamentally improving the overall health and well-being of residents. School children now have access to safe water during their educational day, and families have reliable access to clean water year-round, breaking the cycle of disease caused by their former contaminated water source.
The village will establish a maintenance committee to care for the well, and with proper management, this vital resource should serve the community for approximately 75 years.

Pump Blessing
On May 22, 2026, Father Petros presided over the blessing of the new pump at Bundi Village. The celebration began with Mass, the beautiful voices of the local choir filling the air in joyful worship. The outdoor altar had been decorated beautifully by the community in preparation for the ceremony. The villagers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Father Petros by presenting him with gifts.
You can see that the water flows strong and runs clear. The persistence it took to bring this well to completion has been fully rewarded. The people of Bundi Village are overjoyed.
