Chivinya Village Water Well Completed: One Couple's Remarkable Gift
Chivinya Village Well Project - Impact Dashboard
It is with immense joy and gratitude that we announce the Chivinya Village Well Project has been successfully completed! Over 600 people in this Malawi community, including children at the nearby primary school, now have access to clean, safe drinking water thanks to a remarkably generous couple who chose to fully fund this life-changing project.
This entire project was made possible by a single married couple, Kathy and Steve B., who wish to remain anonymous. Their exceptional compassion and generosity has transformed an entire village for 75 years! While they have chosen not to be named publicly, we want to express our deepest appreciation and thanks for their incredible gift.
From Crisis to Clean Water
The water scarcity in Chivinya Village had escalated to a critical and alarming level. Residents were forced to rely on wells dug by hand hoes for their water supply—crude pits in the ground that yielded water demonstrably unsafe for human consumption. This contaminated water was shared with livestock, presenting severe and immediate health risks to the entire community.
This dire situation created ongoing health crises affecting all village residents, with particularly devastating consequences for vulnerable children and families. The contaminated water source threatened not only their immediate health but their long-term wellbeing and development.
Swift Transformation
After being fully funded on September 27, 2025, the well was drilled and the pump installed in a single day. This is quite remarkable since the drilling and pump installation typically takes several days. An excellent concrete pad was added a couple of days later. This swift timeline meant the community could immediately begin accessing safe, clean water—ending their reliance on dangerous hand-dug wells.
Today, this essential infrastructure serves more than 600 people, including students and staff at the nearby primary school. Children now have access to safe water during their educational day, supporting better health outcomes and creating an environment conducive to learning. The project has fundamentally improved the overall health and wellbeing of every resident in this community.
A village maintenance committee will be established to oversee the well's care, ensuring this vital resource continues to serve the community for its expected lifespan of approximately 75 years.
The Ripple Effect of One Gift
The transformation of Chivinya Village demonstrates the extraordinary impact that dedicated individuals can have when they choose to invest in a community in need. One couple's decision to act has eliminated a health crisis and opened a future of possibility for over 600 people. Their generosity will be felt by children yet to be born, who will grow up with access to clean water—something we too often take for granted.
