We are excited to announce that the Emvuyane Village Well Project has been successfully completed! This community in Malawi now has access to clean, safe drinking water thanks to the incredible generosity of 25 donors who came together to make this vision a reality.

🙏 A Heartfelt Thank You
This project was made possible by 25 extremely generous donors who believed in the mission of Water of Mercy. Your collective compassion has transformed an entire community and will impact generations to come. Every contribution, no matter the size, played a vital role in bringing clean water to Emvuyane Village.

From Arid Scarcity to Abundant Clean Water

Before this well was installed, Emvuyane Village faced exceptionally severe water scarcity in their arid location. The village is spread out, making the water crisis even more challenging for residents. Families were forced to walk over 1.5 kilometers to fetch water from shallow, hand-dug wells shared by both people and livestock. These open water sources were heavily contaminated with mud, debris, and animal waste, creating murky, unsafe water that posed serious health risks to the entire community.

Families had no choice but to collect this contaminated water in buckets and containers for drinking, cooking, and daily use. The dangerous, exhausting water collection journeys consumed valuable time that could have been spent on education and other productive activities, while exposing community members to ongoing health risks from waterborne diseases like cholera.

Rapid Impact, Lasting Change

Funded at 100.9% of our goal on October 31, 2025, the well was drilled, the concrete pad completed, and the pump installed in just three days—an exceptionally fast turnaround for a rural installation. This remarkable efficiency meant the community began benefiting from clean water immediately after the concrete pad dried.

The drilling operation achieved a high water yield, ensuring abundant clean water for the community year-round. Despite the arid conditions of the region, this successful drilling result demonstrates the reliability and sustainability of properly installed deep boreholes. The official handover of the well to the community occurred during a Catholic Mass, marking a joyful celebration of this life-changing transformation.

Today, more than 700 people in this spread-out community have access to clean, safe drinking water directly in their village. The elimination of long, dangerous water collection journeys means children now have more time for education and families can focus on other essential activities. The high water yield ensures reliable access to abundant clean water throughout the year, dramatically reducing the risk of waterborne diseases and improving the overall health and quality of life for all families.

A local water committee will be established to care for the well, and with proper management, this vital resource should serve the community for approximately 75 years.

The Power of Community Support

The Emvuyane Village Well Project demonstrates the incredible impact that can be achieved when donors from around the world unite around a common cause. Twenty-five individuals saw a need in this arid, spread-out community and responded with compassion, forever changing the trajectory of this village's future. You have given the gift of health, dignity, and the chance for a better future to over 700 people and to generations yet to be born.

Pump Blessing

In addition to Father Petros, we were also very pleased to have Sister Anastazia Zimba in attendance during the pump blessing and turnover to the village. Sister Anastazia and her order do great work in Malawi and she has been very helpful in our efforts to get wells built there. Please keep Father Petros and Sister Anastazia in your prayers. Their lives are dedicated to the Lord and serving his people.
