This was our first well boring and pump installation project, which we funded privately to prove it could be done efficiently and cost-effectively. The well project was fully funded on January 5th, 2025, and the well was drilled and installed in just 14 days.

Prior to well installation, villagers were forced to walk one or more kilometers each way to the nearest water source which was typically a shallow, contaminated, and muddy hole in the ground. Each year villagers would suffer from disease related to water contamination. This resulted in sickness and often contributed to early death.

The fresh water well should reduce the occurrences of water contamination and disease significantly. The village formed a committee for maintenance and management for the well. With continued care, it should serve the community for ~75 years!

Proving Our Model Works

By privately funding Yotamu Village, we demonstrated that our approach delivers immediate, lasting impact at an affordable cost. This success story proves that every dollar donated to Water of Mercy creates real, measurable change in communities desperate for clean water.
