Water of Mercy

Kajombo Village Well Project

Kajombo Village Well Project

Population: 550+ residents plus nearby primary school
Current Water Situation: Water scarcity in Kajombo Village has reached a critical and dangerous level. Residents, including students and staff from the nearby primary school, are forced to walk 2 kilometers to fetch water from a shallow, hand-dug well that is shared by both people and livestock. This open water source is little more than a muddy pit where families must kneel in the dirt to collect cloudy, debris-filled water in buckets and containers. The water is visibly contaminated with mud, animal waste, and debris, creating unsafe conditions that present serious health risks to the entire community. The combination of the long 2-kilometer journey and the contaminated water source creates an exhausting and dangerous daily burden for families and impacts children's ability to attend school regularly.
Project Impact: A properly constructed borehole in Kajombo Village will serve more than 550 people, including students and staff at the nearby primary school. This well will provide clean, safe drinking water directly in the village, eliminating the need for residents to undertake dangerous 2-kilometer journeys to the contaminated water source. The school children will have access to clean water during the school day, supporting better health outcomes and educational attendance. Families will no longer need to risk their health collecting contaminated water from the muddy, unsafe source shared with livestock, dramatically improving the overall health and quality of life for the entire community.
