Kapito Village Well Project
Kapito Village Well Project
This well project has been fully funded by our long-time supporter and friend Edward J. and is dedicated in loving memory of his dearest friend, Emi Murakami.
Location: Kapito Village, Malawi Africa
Population: 560
Current Water Situation: The Kapito Village Well Project has been fully funded, thanks to the extraordinary generosity of a single donor, Edward J., who has dedicated this well in loving memory of his dearest friend, Emi Murakami. Until drilling begins, the 560 residents of Kapito Village still have no access to safe drinking water. The only water source is a dambo, a shallow, marshy wetland where murky, contaminated water collects among the mud and vegetation. Learners and teachers from the nearby primary school crowd together with villagers at the water's edge, crouching to scoop this brown, sediment-filled water into pots, basins, buckets, and whatever containers they can find. The water is shared with livestock and wild animals, and this area is at high risk for cholera and other waterborne diseases, presenting severe health risks to the entire community. With funding now secured, drilling, construction, and a blessing by Father Petros will follow, and this page will be updated with photos and video once the well is complete.
Project Impact: A properly constructed borehole in Kapito Village will serve 560 people, including children and staff at the nearby primary school. This essential infrastructure will provide clean, safe drinking water directly in the village, eliminating the community's dependence on a contaminated marshy dambo shared with livestock and wild animals. The project will dramatically reduce the risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases that threaten this community, fundamentally improving the overall health and well-being of residents. School children will have access to safe water during their educational day, supporting better health outcomes and learning environments. Families will gain reliable access to clean water year-round, breaking the cycle of disease caused by their current contaminated water source. This life-changing project was made possible by the remarkable generosity of one person, given in loving memory of Emi Murakami
