This well project has been fully funded by a long-time supporter, and is dedicated in loving memory of his dearest friend, Emi Murakami.

Current Water Situation: The Kapito Village Well Project is complete. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of a single long-time supporter of Water of Mercy, who asked to remain unnamed, Kapito Village was fully funded on July 1, 2026, covering 100% of the $5,500 goal in a single gift. The well was given in loving memory of Emi Murakami, the donor's dearest friend. The well was successfully drilled on August 19, 2026, striking water in abundance, with Father Petros on site to oversee the drilling. The pump has been installed and the village is drawing clean water from it. A formal blessing with Father Petros is forthcoming. This is the first time Kapito Village has ever had access to fresh, clean water. All 560 residents, including learners and teachers at the nearby primary school, now have access to clean, safe drinking water directly in their village. A local water committee will be established for maintenance and management of the well. With proper care, the well should serve the community for approximately 75 years.
Project Impact: Before this well was installed, the 560 residents of Kapito Village had no access to safe drinking water. The only water source was a dambo, a shallow, marshy wetland where murky, contaminated water collected among the mud and vegetation. Learners and teachers from the nearby primary school crowded together with villagers at the water's edge, crouching to scoop this brown, sediment-filled water into pots, basins, buckets, and whatever containers they could find. The water was shared with livestock and wild animals, and this area was prone to cholera and other waterborne diseases, presenting severe health risks to the entire community, including the children who collected and drank this water daily. Today, all 560 people, including children and staff at the nearby primary school, have access to clean, safe drinking water directly in their village. Families no longer need to collect contaminated water from a marshy dambo shared with livestock and wild animals. The risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases has been dramatically reduced, and families now have reliable, year-round access to clean water, breaking the cycle of disease caused by their former contaminated water source. School children now have access to clean water during the school day, supporting better health outcomes and improved educational attendance. This well stands in loving memory of Emi Murakami. With proper maintenance and management by the community water committee, this vital resource should serve Kapito Village for approximately 75 years.
