Zebediya Village Well Project
Zebediya Village Well Project
Location: Zebediya Village, Malawi Africa
Population: 679+
Current Water Situation: Zebediya Village was successfully funded on January 29, 2026, thanks to 3 generous donors β our first of two villages fully funded that day! Drilling was completed on February 23, 2026, and the water flow was amazing (see the video). The pump blessing took place on March 3, 2026, with Father Petros presiding and many villagers in attendance. This is the first time Zebediya Village has ever had access to fresh, clean water. More than 679 people now have access to clean, safe drinking water. A local water committee will be established for maintenance and management of the well. With proper care, it should serve the community for approximately 75 years.
Project Impact: Before this well was installed, the 679 residents of Zebediya Village had no choice but to collect water from a shallow, muddy pond shared with livestock. This small water source was little more than liquid mud, yet it remained the only option for drinking, cooking, and daily use. Families had to wade through tall grass to reach the pond and scoop the murky, contaminated water into containers. The water was visibly unsafe β thick with sediment and animal waste. This area was prone to cholera and other waterborne diseases, presenting severe health risks to the entire community. Today, nearly 680 people have access to clean, safe drinking water directly in their village. Families no longer need to collect contaminated water from a muddy pond shared with livestock, and the risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases has been dramatically reduced. With proper maintenance and management by the community water committee, this vital resource should serve Zebediya Village for approximately 75 years.
