Emvuyane Village Well Project
Emvuyane Village Well Project
Location: Emvuyane Village, Malawi Africa
Population: 700+
Current Water Situation: The Emvuyane Village Well Project has been successfully completed. The project was fully funded on October 31, 2025, and drilling was completed in just three days, an exceptionally fast turnaround for a rural installation. The drilling operation achieved a high water yield, ensuring abundant clean water for the community. The concrete pad and pump installation are complete and the well is now operational. More than 700 people in Emvuyane Village now have access to clean, safe drinking water. The official handover of the well to the community occurred during a Catholic Mass. A local water committee will be established for maintenance and management of the well. With proper care, it should serve the community for approximately 75 years.
Project Impact: Before this project, families in Emvuyane Village were forced to walk over 1.5 kilometers to collect water from shallow, hand-dug wells shared with livestock similar to the one depicted here. These open water sources were heavily contaminated with mud, debris, and animal waste, creating murky, unsafe water that posed serious health risks to the entire community. Families had no choice but to collect this contaminated water in buckets for drinking, cooking, and daily use. Today, more than 700 people in Emvuyane Village have access to clean, safe drinking water directly in their village. Children no longer need to make dangerous water collection journeys and will have more time for education. Families no longer face the daily burden of walking long distances for contaminated water, and the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera has been dramatically reduced. The high water yield from this well ensures reliable access to abundant clean water year-round. With proper maintenance and management by the community water committee, this vital resource should serve Emvuyane Village for approximately 75 years.
