Emvuyane Village Well Project
Emvuyane Village Well Project
Location: Emvuyane Village, Malawi Africa
Population: 700+
Current Water Situation: Emvuyane Village is grappling with exceptionally severe water scarcity that has created a grueling daily reality for residents. The village is spread out and resides in an arid location. Families are forced to walk over 1.5 kilometers to fetch water from hand dug water holes that are shared by both people and livestock similar to the one depicted here. This extensive distance creates immense difficulty in accessing water while cultivating grave concerns regarding widespread water contamination and the inevitable spread of debilitating waterborne diseases like cholera. The crushing burden of water scarcity plagues this entire community daily.
Project Impact: A borehole in Emvuyane Village will effectively serve over 700 people and drastically alleviate the crushing burden of water scarcity that currently plagues this community. The project will eliminate the need for residents to undertake dangerous 1.5-kilometer journeys to contaminated water sources, dramatically reducing exposure to waterborne diseases like cholera. Families will gain reliable access to clean, safe drinking water directly in their village, improving overall community health and freeing up time previously spent on water collection for other essential activities.
